I am interested in the ways that attention, imagination, and shared creative activity can support reflection and connection. My work is relational, collaborative, and responsive to each person's own ways of communicating and making meaning.

During my clinical internship at Meristem, I provided individual talk, art, and telehealth therapy for neurodivergent young adults. My approach draws from art therapy, DBT-informed practice, solution-focused work, existential-humanistic therapy, play, and systems thinking. I understand therapy within a broader social context and aim to practice in ways that are neurodiversity-affirming, LGBTQ+ affirming, multicultural, and attentive to power and access.

I earned an M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy with a focus in Art Therapy from Dominican University of California and a B.A. in Psychology and Art from Whitman College.

Daniel is not currently accepting private-practice clients through this website. This page is for professional background, grants, and collaboration.

Clinical orientation

Several ways of meeting the person in front of me.

01

Relational

Building trust through empathy, attunement, collaboration, and clear boundaries.

02

Expressive

Making room for art, play, and image when words are not the only—or best—way in.

03

Social justice-oriented

Understanding distress, identity, healing, and access within the cultural and systemic conditions that shape people's lives.

Affirming commitments

How these values show up in practice

Neurodiversity-affirming

I approach neurological differences as forms of human variation rather than deficits to erase. In practice, this means adapting communication, pacing, sensory conditions, and goals around each person's needs and self-understanding.

LGBTQ+ affirming

I respect each person's name, pronouns, relationships, and self-definition; avoid pathologizing identity; and remain attentive to minority stress, safety, belonging, and the wider systems that shape experience.

Multicultural

I invite cultural, familial, spiritual, and community contexts into the work, examine my own assumptions and social position, and adapt interventions instead of treating one framework as universal.

Trauma-informed

I emphasize choice, transparency, predictability, collaboration, and pacing. Creative work is offered rather than imposed, and attention is paid to emotional and sensory safety throughout the process.

Anti-oppressive

I consider how power, discrimination, access, and material conditions affect distress and healing. I aim to make power visible, share decisions, reduce barriers, and avoid locating every problem solely within the individual.

Evidence-based

I integrate relevant research with clinical judgment, ongoing feedback, and the client's values, culture, preferences, and goals. Evidence guides the work without replacing responsiveness to the person.
